Pavlov's Writer - Training yourself to Write

For the first half of the month I did fairly well, every time I was able to sit down to try to write I wrote. Halfway through the month that stopped working, I had trouble writing and kept getting stuck. I just realized why. I'd trained myself, just as Pavlov trained his dog, to write on cue. Specifically, this cue. Whenever I listen to that pandora station now I have the urge to write and, if I am at a computer, actually do so. I'd also stopped listening to it around half way through the month.

I've trained myself to write on cue. Woof.

The Block, The Writer's Block

So I've been stuck for three days, haven't written a word. They just wouldn't come out. Don't get me wrong, I had ideas dancing around in my head and a general idea of where I wanted the story to go but every time I tried to put those ideas into words they just wouldn't come out. Then Eton smacked me around a little but and pointed me in a different direction and 1345 words fell out, and more are pushing their way to the forefront for their turn. I think tomorrow, in thanks to Eton for his aid, I'll post his character profile.

Word War

I was a little bit leery of the concept of a word war at first. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to produce coherent prose at a rapid pace while under pressure of trying to keep up with someone as prolific as Karisha, but I have to say it was a rush. She put out 1604 words and I put out 1439, both in just under 24 minutes. I can honestly say I've never written anything that quickly before and it turned out to flow much better than I'd feared it would. Now my word count is up to 6361, just 300 below what I'd originally planned to have at the start of the day today. I'm feeling really good about this and I'm glad I decided to participate in NaNoWriMo this year.

Recovering Pace

Off to a rocky start, only wrote 1500 words in the first two and a half days but I'm getting back on track rapidly. Just put down 2500 in two and a half hours. If I can keep that pace up I'll easily pass 50,000 words. Even if I slow down to 2000 a day, at this point, I'll get nearly 60,000.

The Beginning

In the beginning there was NaNoWriMo, and from it flowed forth......a book with no title just yet. Click the NaNo badge in the sidebar to see my progress, hopefully this time next month it will say I've completed at least 50,000 words.
